The Ratbag
Merlot 2022
There were moves against this Merlot – some people would happily rip this grand Dame out by the roots and plant more Shiraz. If I had only ever tasted the big company Merlots I might have been there with a shovel myself, but this is something different. Every reason to plant and care for Merlot is right here in this glass and the argument to do so is compelling.
Vegan friendly
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Great fruit driven wine that has now become one of my new favourites! Love enjoying it with friends - Kerrie
Winemaker's Notes
Our Church vineyard Merlot quietly excels without much fuss. The vines almost balance themselves. The ferment ticks away without fanfare, so too does the maturation. Then one day, without really expecting it, you open a bottle and it blows you away with its fruit purity, elegance, and class.
Bouquet & Palate
Gamey, driven lift. Menthol fresh denim. A plunge pool of red fruits, molasses, violets, and blueberry. Bombastic and showy but underpinned with sweet tobacco, and earthy notes. The plush palate blooms big and succulent leading to a finish both bright and crunchy.
Food Match
Keep it simple – thin crust pizza with prosciutto and black olives.
