Shearers Cut

Members Only Shiraz 2022 - NEW VINTAGE

Shearer’s Cut’ is made from grapes hand-harvested by our members at ‘Shearing the Vines’ – our annual vintage event.

The ‘Black Sheep’ Vineyard, located in Blewitt Springs, has sandy & alluvial loam soil. The site is verdant, with a previous life as an orchard a reflection of its suitability for agriculture. The key is to keep things in balance, and being a wetter and cooler site than our other vineyards reduces the need to water and a later harvest date. It also means it produces wine with unique flavour and structure, a true expression of its terrior.

Winemaker's Notes

The blend is a perfectly balanced expression of what the Black Sheep does best – bright fruit elegance. As always the wine is made in the Vineyard and the bunches selected by our Shearers have made all the difference. This vintage was made using a technique born in Italy that we call Australione. The grapes were carefully laid out on drying racks and allowed to dry over two weeks, increasing both the flavour concentration and flavour.

Bouquet & Palate

Blood and iodine rose. Tar and a titch of black leather. Underneath can be found fresh raspberry seed, cherry stone, fennel and thyme florals. The fruit sluice palate comes packed with fine tannin. Fleshy blackcurrant fruit flows through the palate along with a livewire line of black pepper and spice.

Food Match

Tender cuts of beef and game, rocket roast-walnut and baby spinach salad with loads of olive oil.
