Black Blood III

Black Sheep Vineyard Shiraz 2022

Three truly unique Shiraz wines where everything has been kept as consistent as possible, picking dates, winemaking approach, oak regime and maturation. The only thing that is different is the terroir each wine comes from.

Black Sheep Vineyard – Sourced entirely from Block 4 at our Black Sheep Vineyard the incredible lift of this wine is in part due to the deep sand in which these vines have thrived since 1935. These old, gnarly, and twisted grape trees look nothing at all like the pretty, delicate florals, in the wine they produce.

🏆 92 Points - Vinous - Angus Hughson

Deep and slightly forward developed colour, just a trace of purple remains; the bouquet is reserved but has dark chocolate, mocha and fruitcake notes, while the palate is lush in sweet superripe fruit which is dried off promptly by earthy tannins. A succulent wine, very full bodied and plush; a decadent wine that should have many fans. (Blewitt Springs sands)

“The three Black Blood Shiraz wines are the most convincing trio linking vineyard soils and the wine in the glass” - James Halliday

Winemaker's Notes

There are years where this ‘Ballet Dancer’ is a bit of a ‘Prima Donna’ the price of poise and elegance is an incredible level of viticultural diligence, patience, and luck. Here the performance is not only flawless but appears effortless.

Bouquet & Palate

Iron flowers. Leather fed and rose lipped. A hip flick of tarragon. Meadowsweet; a roll in fresh hay. Fennel noted. PK gum. Cherry pip, pink lady, crabapple. Sultry with spice, brimming boldly with fruit, and challenging the balance of savoury and sweet. Tannins bloom in a palate already crowded with fruit and florals. Finishes crisp and salivating; ready for another round.
