Black Blood I
Cellar Vineyard Shiraz 2022
Three truly unique Shiraz wines where everything has been kept as consistent as possible, picking dates, winemaking approach, oak regime and maturation. The only thing that is different is the terroir each wine comes from.
Cellar Vineyard – the home of the Black Sheep. We watch the change in seasons play out across it from our Cellar Door; summer heat through to winter squalls. But, below the ground, the black, cracking clay remains the same; steadily producing intense, structure driven, textural wines year in year out.

🏆 93 Points - Halliday Wine Companion - Marcus Ellis
🏆 93 Points - Vinous - Angus Hughson
Very deep, saturated colour, sweet superripe blackberry, licorice and mulberry aromas, lashings of fruit, oak and tannin; a big ripe wine with generous fruit and masses of soft tannins, which should cellar well. A decadent shiraz. (Grown on cracking black clay soils)
“The three Black Blood Shiraz wines are the most convincing trio linking vineyard soils and the wine in the glass” - James Halliday
Winemaker's Notes
Cellar Block is often slow to shine; the secrets of the black clay only told in time. The trade for this longevity in bottle is a more defined texture in its youth that needs age to become supple.
Bouquet & Palate
Ribbons of red fruit escape the molasses black expanse of this wine’s aromatics. Wet earth and split stone persistent accompaniments to the stealthy fruit. Florals spike through the dark in spite of it. Apple skin, and rhubarb. Coal smoke. An iron caged basket of fruit. The whole thing hums and chugs like a steam engine – and is every bit as solid.
Food Match
A choice cut of aged beef, cooked simply, but well – charred to taste.
